Bernard “Benny” Matias Alva, 80 years old and a resident of Strathmore, California joined his wife Anita G. Alva in Heaven on January 31, 2021 after losing his battle with esophageal cancer. Benny was born on August 13, 1940 in Woodlake, California to Father, Anselmo Alva and Mother Alexandria Alva.
Benny was married to Anita on September 1, 1973. They moved to Strathmore in 1982, a few years after he retired from serving 22 years in the US Army. During which, he served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Military’s Purple Heart for wounds received during combat.
Benny is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Anita Alva, Brother’s, Charlie Alva, Tony Alva, Art Alva and sister Frances (Kika) Sandoval. Benny is survived by his sister Nellie A. Cordova, several sons, daughters, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He deeply loved and enjoyed them all.
Benny was a loving and caring man and also loved his dogs. He was a sociable man and enjoyed meeting new people. He also enjoyed working on home improvement projects, going out to breakfast every morning, driving the country roads and riding his Harley Davidson’s. In the evenings he enjoyed cleaning and detailing his Harley, having a few beers and relaxing on his porch listening to the water cascade into his fish pond. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
There will be a viewing for Benny on Saturday, February, 13th from 1PM to 5PM at the Porterville Funeral and Cremation Center located at 765 W. Henderson Ave. Porterville CA. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February, 19th at 1PM at the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery located at 639 S. Foothill Ave. Lindsay CA. Benny will be missed by many until we meet him again in Heaven, where he’ll be waiting for us...
