Welcome to the memorial page for

Evonne Marie Gibson

July 6, 1958 ~ November 5, 2017 (age 59)

Evonne Marie Gibson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 5th 2017. She was 59 years old. Evonne was born in Bellflower, CA on July 6, 1958 to Cornelius (Case) and Louise DeVries. Her family relocated to the Porterville area when she was 6 years old. Evonne attended Burton School from 1st to 8th grade. Evonne went on to attend Monache High School, where she met the love of her life, her husband of 39 years Randal (Randy) Gibson. Evonne loved music and played the flute and piccolo in the Monache Marauder Marching Band, graduating in 1976.

Evonne and Randy were married on August 12th, 1978, and started their own home together in Porterville. They so enjoyed being married and worked hard in starting their first jobs; her at Title Insurance and Trust, and he at Regal Textiles (Porterville Diaper Factory). They enjoyed many motorcycle rides and traveling. After 6 years of marriage, the Lord grabbed ahold of their hearts. In 1984, they welcomed their first child, Chad Randal, and two years later their second child, Kristina Marie. Randy and Evonne committed themselves to their Christian faith and the raising of their children in accordance with God’s Word.

Evonne took time away from her employment to be able to raise her children, until returning to the workforce full time at Porterville Developmental Center where she rose through the ranks in a career that spanned 32 years. She worked in many departments including the Pharmacy, Clinical Records, and the Office of Protective Services, eventually landing in the office of the Executive Director where she served as the secretary to the Executive Director. She retired in July 2017 after serving as the Assistant to the Executive Director.

Evonne found immense joy in spending time with her family. They filled photo albums with memories of traveling in their 5th wheel as they visited many places across the western United States. She and Randy especially loved Pismo Beach and the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Evonne enjoyed serving the Lord as the worship leader at Henderson Avenue Baptist Church where she played the piano. Any given weekend, Evonne could be found at Randy’s side, assisting him with the latest home, church, or rental improvement project. One of Evonne’s dreams came true in 2014 when she and Randy began the process of designing and building their dream home. They moved in on June 6, 2016. Evonne loved having a home where she could entertain family and friends. Evonne loved caring for her first granddaughter, Reagan Eileen, whom she lovingly referred to as her ‘punkin pie’ and was waiting with great anticipation the arrival of her second granddaughter Madison Marie, due on November 25th, 2017.

Evonne is preceded in death by her mother Louise. She is survived by her father, Case, devoted husband Randy, her children Chad (Christen Gibson) and Kristina (Eric Lopez), sister Linda (Mike Brown), brother Casey (Mary DeVries) and two granddaughters Reagan and Madison.

Evonne will be remembered as a woman of character and impeccable work ethic. She applied herself 110% to every project she undertook and impacted countless lives through her church and work life. As a wife and mother, Evonne embodied the essence of the Proverbs 31 woman. Evonne will be missed dearly by her family, but we do not grieve as those who have no hope, for our hope is in God, and the Resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ!
